The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “By the expression ‘ He descended into Hell ‘, the Apostles’ Creed confesses that Jesus did really die and through his death for us conquered death and the devil ‘who has the power of death ‘ (Hebrews 2:14).
In the Synoptic Gospels, various supernatural events accompany the crucifixion, including darkness, an earthquake, and (in Matthew) the resurrection of saints. Following Jesus ‘ death , his body was removed from the cross by Joseph of Arimathea and buried in a rock-hewn tomb, with Nicodemus assisting.
Thus he “groaned in his spirit” because even those who were closest to him failed to recognize that he was, as he declared in verse 26, “the resurrection and the life”. Finally, at the graveside, he ” wept in sympathy with their sorrow over Lazarus’ death”.
Using these methods, most scholars assume a date of birth between 6 and 4 BC, and that Jesus ‘ preaching began around AD 27–29 and lasted one to three years. They calculate the death of Jesus as having taken place between AD 30 and 36.
In classic Greek mythology, below Heaven, Earth, and Pontus is Tartarus, or Tartaros (Greek Τάρταρος, deep place). It is either a deep, gloomy place, a pit or abyss used as a dungeon of torment and suffering that resides within Hades (the entire underworld) with Tartarus being the hellish component.
Support for the understanding that the spirits in prison are angelic beings and not people is thought to be confirmed by II Peter 2:4–5 and Jude 6, which refer to rebellious angels, punished by God with imprisonment. In I Peter 3 : 19 , the word is phylake (can also be anglic. as Phylace), meaning prison.

The Healing of Malchus was Christ’s final miracle before his resurrection. Simon Peter had cut off the ear of the High Priest’s servant, Malchus, during the scene in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus restored the ear by touching it with his hand.
In its account of the crucifixion, on the eve of Passover, it says that after Jesus was crucified at nine in the morning; darkness fell over all the land, or all the world (Greek: γῆν, translit. gēn can mean either) from around noon (“the sixth hour “) until 3 o’clock (“the ninth hour “).
This is the first of three miracles of Jesus in the canonical gospels in which he raises the dead , the other two being the raising of Jairus’ daughter and of Lazarus.
Mark uses the cursing of the barren fig tree to bracket and comment on his story of the Jewish temple: Jesus and his disciples are on their way to Jerusalem when Jesus curses a fig tree because it bears no fruit; in Jerusalem he drives the money-changers from the temple; and the next morning the disciples find that the
Some apocryphal accounts state that at the time of her betrothal to Joseph, Mary was 12–14 years old . According to ancient Jewish custom, Mary could have been betrothed at about 12. Hyppolitus of Thebes says that Mary lived for 11 years after the death of her son Jesus, dying in 41 AD.
The date of birth of Jesus is not stated in the gospels or in any historical reference, but most theologians assume a year of birth between 6 and 4 BC.
The transformation of water into wine at the Marriage at Cana or Wedding at Cana is the first miracle attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of John.
