In this New Testament narrative, Jesus not only accepts the titles Christ and Son of God , but declares the proclamation a divine revelation by stating that his Father in Heaven had revealed it to Peter , unequivocally declaring himself to be both Christ and the Son of God .
Matthew 3:17 is the seventeenth (and final) verse of the third chapter of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament. Jesus has just been baptized by John the Baptist and in this verse God announces that Jesus is his son .
“The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” are not names for different parts of God , but one name for God because three persons exist in God as one entity. They cannot be separate from one another.
The belief or doctrine of the Trinity states that God is divided into three separate beings, namely: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ represents God the Son or the beloved Son of God .
” Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ , the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
Following the arrest of Jesus , Peter denied knowing him three times , but after the third denial, heard the rooster crow and recalled the prediction as Jesus turned to look at him. Peter then began to cry bitterly. This final incident is known as the Repentance of Peter.
During his lifetime, Jesus himself didn’t call himself God and didn’t consider himself God , and none of his disciples had any inkling at all that he was God . You do find Jesus calling himself God in the Gospel of John, or the last Gospel.
Restorationist. Jehovah’s Witnesses, citing a reference to “an archangel’s voice” at 1 Thessalonians 4:16, also believe that “Michael” is another name for Jesus in heaven. They believe Jesus is an archangel in the true sense of the word—the highest spiritual creature.
Jesus ‘ name in Hebrew was “Yeshua” which translates to English as Joshua.
In Jehovah’s Witness theology, only God the Father (Jehovah) is the one true almighty God, even over his Son Jesus Christ. They teach that the pre-existent Christ is God’s First-begotten Son, and that the Holy Spirit is God’s active force (projected energy).
Defenders of religion have countered that the question is improper: We ask, “If all things have a creator, then who created God?” Actually, only created things have a creator, so it’s improper to lump God with his creation. God has revealed himself to us in the Bible as having always existed.
“Jesus is Lord” (Greek: κύριος Ἰησοῦς , kyrios Iesous) is the shortest credal affirmation found in the New Testament, one of several slightly more elaborate variations. It serves as a statement of faith for the majority of Christians who regard Jesus as both fully man and God.
In John 15:26 Jesus says of the Holy Spirit : “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”
We cannot begin to imagine the agony He suffered physically for us, nor are we able to understand the agony He knew in that time as the weight of all the sins of all mankind were laid upon Him. Christ Jesus died for our sins . Why would anyone refuse to trust Him as Lord and Savior?
