The Resurrection , then, was observed two days later, on 16 Nisan, regardless of the day of the week. In the West the Resurrection of Jesus was celebrated on the first day of the week, Sunday, when Jesus had risen from the dead.
The next day, after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate: ‘That deceiver [ Jesus ] said he would rise again after 3 days, so guard the tomb for 3 days to prevent his disciples from stealing the body, and then claim he has been raised from the dead.
DEAR N.G.: The Bible clearly states that after His resurrection Jesus repeatedly appeared to His disciples over a period of 40 days , and then miraculously ascended into the presence of God . The Bible says, “He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight” (Acts 1:9).
The Gospel of Luke describes Jesus ascending to heaven at a location near Bethany. In the Gospel of Matthew, an angel appeared to Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb, telling her that Jesus is not there because he’s been raised from the dead, and instructing her to tell the other followers to go to Galilee, to meet Jesus .
Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again’ (Luke 24:5–7) . The female followers then returned to tell Jesus ‘ apostles and other people that Jesus had risen from the dead.
The Garden Tomb (Hebrew: גן הקבר) is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem, which was unearthed in 1867 and is considered by some Protestants to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus .

It is believed that the soul of the departed remains wandering on Earth during the 40 -day period, coming back home, visiting places the departed has lived in as well as their fresh grave.
The Bible tells us that Jesus died and rose again not only so that we could receive forgiveness, but even more so, He died and rose again so that we might have life . It is through His death and resurrection that we receive life . He died and rose again that we might live for Him – that’s loving service.
Mary Magdalene as trusted disciple For its part, the Bible gave no hint that Mary Magdalene was Jesus’s wife . None of the four canonical gospels suggests that sort of relationship, even though they list the women who travel with Jesus and in some cases include their husbands’ names.
His resurrection proved that Jesus was who He claimed to be, the Son of God, sent from Heaven to save us from our sins. But it also proved for all time that there is life after death — this is the Resurrection Story. The resurrection blasts apart the finality of death.
This is the first of three miracles of Jesus in the canonical gospels in which he raises the dead , the other two being the raising of Jairus’ daughter and of Lazarus.
