Gospel of Matthew As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, called Peter and his brother Andrew . They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
In Luke, Jesus tells the disciples to preach repentance and forgiveness, and promises that they will have divine power. In John, Jesus says the disciples will have the Holy Spirit and the authority to forgive sins and to withhold forgiveness. In Acts, Jesus promises the disciples that the Holy Spirit will inspire them.

28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee upon the waters. 29 And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters to come to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.
Following the arrest of Jesus , Peter denied knowing him three times , but after the third denial, heard the rooster crow and recalled the prediction as Jesus turned to look at him. Peter then began to cry bitterly. This final incident is known as the Repentance of Peter.

He is believed to be the Jewish messiah who is prophesied in the Hebrew Bible, which is called the Old Testament in Christianity . It is believed that through his Crucifixion and subsequent Resurrection, God offered humans salvation and eternal life, that Jesus died to atone for sin to make humanity right with God.
His three basic teachings included the need for justice , morality, and service to others.

Peter , a Jewish fisherman, was called to be a disciple of Jesus at the beginning of Jesus ‘ ministry. He received from Jesus the name Cephas (from Aramaic Kepa [“Rock”]; hence Peter , from Petros, a Greek translation of Kepa).
