The Roman historian and senator Tacitus referred to Christ, his execution by Pontius Pilate, and the existence of early Christians in Rome in his final work, Annals (written ca. AD 116), book 15, chapter 44.
Josephus is certainly among the most enigmatic personages in the history of the Jewish people. He wrote “The Jewish War,” he wrote a history of the Jewish people, and he was commander of the Galilean forces of the army that opposed Rome for two years.
The four canonical gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, are the main sources for the biography of Jesus ‘ life , the teachings and actions attributed to him.
The extant manuscripts of the book Antiquities of the Jews, written by the first-century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus around 93–94 AD, contain two references to Jesus of Nazareth and one reference to John the Baptist.
To the Romans , Jesus was a troublemaker who had got his just desserts. To the Christians, however, he was a martyr and it was soon clear that the execution had made Judaea even more unstable. Pontius Pilate – the Roman governor of Judaea and the man who ordered the crucifixion – was ordered home in disgrace.
Jesus ‘ name in Hebrew was “Yeshua” which translates to English as Joshua.

Using these methods, most scholars assume a date of birth between 6 and 4 BC , and that Jesus’ preaching began around AD 27–29 and lasted one to three years. They calculate the death of Jesus as having taken place between AD 30 and 36.
Mary Magdalene as trusted disciple For its part, the Bible gave no hint that Mary Magdalene was Jesus’s wife . None of the four canonical gospels suggests that sort of relationship, even though they list the women who travel with Jesus and in some cases include their husbands’ names.
Palestine in the Time of Jesus. Jesus came from the town of Nazareth in Galilee . This northern territory of Palestine was also his most important area of activity. Apart from the larger towns of Sepphoris and Tiberias Galilee was a country area, and agriculture was the main occupation.

Summary of Jesus’ life He was born to Joseph and Mary sometime between 6 bce and shortly before the death of Herod the Great (Matthew 2; Luke 1:5) in 4 bce. According to Matthew and Luke, however, Joseph was only legally his father.
The earliest Christians maintained that Jesus was a human being who was made God – a god – a divine being. Later they ended up saying that Jesus was born to the union of God and a mortal because the Holy Spirit came upon Mary and that’s how she conceived Jesus , so Jesus literally had God as his father.
