In Christian tradition, the Four Evangelists are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John , the authors attributed with the creation of the four Gospel accounts in the New Testament that bear the following titles: Gospel according to Matthew; Gospel according to Mark; Gospel according to Luke and Gospel according to John .
So we have five. Andrew , John , Simon Peter , Philip , and Nathanael . These are the first five disciples. They are also apostles.
While a disciple is a student, one who learns from a teacher, an apostle is sent to deliver those teachings to others. ” Apostle ” means messenger, he who is sent. An apostle is sent to deliver or spread those teachings to others.

Gospel of John Andrew , Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah”. Andrew is called the Protokletos or “first-called”.
Luke writes that Jesus “called his disciples to him, and from them he chose twelve whom he also named apostles: Simon , whom he also named Peter , and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; Judas the son of James, and also
And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
Following the arrest of Jesus , Peter denied knowing him three times , but after the third denial, heard the rooster crow and recalled the prediction as Jesus turned to look at him. Peter then began to cry bitterly. This final incident is known as the Repentance of Peter.
The transformation of water into wine at the Marriage at Cana or Wedding at Cana is the first miracle attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of John.
Mary Magdalene as trusted disciple For its part, the Bible gave no hint that Mary Magdalene was Jesus’s wife . None of the four canonical gospels suggests that sort of relationship, even though they list the women who travel with Jesus and in some cases include their husbands’ names.
Did the disciples write the Bible ? No. The Old Testament was written and compiled at least two hundred years before the time of the disciples . The disciples did not even have any influence on the New Testament , almost as if they might never even have existed.

Why is discipleship important ? Discipleship is important because we want people to become fully committed followers of Christ . Discipleship helps believers to grow in their faith, to grow in maturity and wisdom, and build their faith on a strong foundation so that they can then disciple and lead others towards Christ .
Faith – one’s part to play to become a disciple Upon telling those who have believed in Him to obey His word so as to prove to be His disciples indeed, Jesus has established that it takes believing and obeying, which is equal to faith, for one to become His disciple .
Characteristics of a Disciple Professing faith – curious crowd that did not last (Luke 6:17; John 6:66) Possessing faith – convinced group (Matt 16:13-14,24) Progressing faith – committed few (Matt 10:1)
