JESUS KNEW THAT HIS TIME TO LEAVE THIS WORLD WAS GETTING CLOSE AND SO HE SAID THAT WHEN “THE BRIDGROOM” IS TAKEN AWAY, ON THAT DAY, HIS FOLLOWERS WOULD FAST . THERE WERE GOING TO BE DAYS COMING WHEN HIS FOLLOWERS WOULD NEED THE SUPERNATURAL STRENGTH, THAT FASTING PROVIDED.
Today, Lent is connected with the 40 -day fast that Jesus undergoes (Mark 1:13; Matthew 4:1–11; Luke 4:1–13). Mark tells us that Jesus was tempted by Satan, but it is in Matthew and Luke that the details of the temptation are fleshed out. All three accounts say that Jesus went without food for the 40 days .
“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting . Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
They had to work through the despair of losing Him, and the questions of what would have happened if they had not followed Him, or if they had defended Him better, or if they had simply been duped. By waiting three days , Jesus allowed them time to work through some of these issues and questions.
United prayer and fasting has always been used by God to deal a decisive blow to the enemy! Often in the Bible, God’s people fasted immediately before a major victory, miracle, or answer to prayer . It prepared them for a blessing! Moses fasted before he received the Ten Commandments.
According to two passages in the Bible , Daniel fasted twice. During the first fast, he ate only vegetables and water to set himself apart for God. For a second fast mentioned in a later chapter, Daniel stopped eating meat, wine and other rich foods.
To keep yourself safe, especially if you are new to fasting, consider limiting your fast periods to 24 hours or fewer and keeping a snack on hand in case you start to feel faint or ill. If you do become ill or are concerned about your health, make sure you stop fasting straight away.

The World English Bible translates the passage as: So that you are not seen by men to be fasting , but by your Father who is in secret , and your. Father, who sees in secret , will reward you.
Driven by the Spirit into the desert, Jesus remains there for forty days without eating; he lives among wild beasts, and angels minister to him. At the end of this time Satan tempts him three times , seeking to compromise his filial attitude toward God.
For them the death of Jesus was part of a divine plan to save humanity. The death and resurrection of this one man is at the very heart of the Christian faith. For Christians it is through Jesus’s death that people’s broken relationship with God is restored. This is known as the Atonement.
